Day 1 Arrival in Managua
Arrival at the international airport in Managua. Transfer to your nearby hotel.
Day 2 Matagalpa city tour
You will be traveling to the highlands for a couple of hours. In Matagalpa, a local guide will meet you and show you around this gorgeous: During the tour you will appreciate the dramatic history, local culture and an unforgettable view of the city.
Day 3 Sustainable farming and cloud forest
Matagalpa is also known as the capital of production of Nicaragua and one of the most outstanding production is coffee. Today you will visit a diverse farm where you will witness some of the most representative crops of the region, that are being grown in a sustainable way, including the whole process of coffee. Your guide will also take you on nature hike through the lush cloud forest, you can choose from a mild hike to a more challenging one; either way, you will experience the magic of the cloud forest.
Day 4 Local farming and tobacco
On your way to Estelí, you will take a detour to La Garnacha, an interesting community which economy is based on organic agriculture and cheese production. Moreover, you will visit don Alberto a hermit who has made of his backyard a natural art museum, he has carved almost on every single rock he has found, you will definitely enjoy his story and the stunning mural he has created.
Day 5 Swimming through the Somoto canyon
The Somoto canyon is an experience you do not want to miss. You will hike and swim in the middle of the stunning rock formations, a couple of times you will even have to take a big jump into the deep water of the Río coco. At the end of the tour, you will also visit a factory of tasty Rosquillas (corn biscuits) that give a very good reputation all over Nicaragua to the town of Somoto due to their taste.
Day 6 Artisanal fishing – Padre Ramos estuary
This day you will be heading to the pacific coast, where you will learn some local techniques of fishing in one of the most important estuaries in Central America, due to the conservation that takes place here of the endangered Hawksbill sea turtle. We will also visit the turtle nursery to see if some hatchlings pump out of their eggs to look for the the ocean.
Day 7 Volcan Cosigüina - Chinandega
Being at the top of Cosigüina volcano means that you will be able to appreciate the 2km lagoon that rests inside of its crater. It also gives the opportunity to view Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras from the same spot. The dry forest will also be part of this beautiful journey. At the end of the hike we will drive back to our hotel.
Day 8-9 León
Our adventure continues in the Cerro Negro active volcano, where we will have the chance to seat on a board and slide down. During the day you will be able to relax and explore the colonial city. In the afternoon we will hike the Telica volcano, looking for the best spot to witness a breathtaking sunset and see the lava inside of the crater when the night has gone completely dark.
Day 10-12 Río San Juan
The river is connected to one of the largest rain forest in Nicaragua, hard to access but really worth the visit. You will be spending the next days in Bartola refuge, a paradise for nature lovers. Specially for those who appreciate birdwatching.
As the night falls, get your flash light ready to navigate around the shores of the river looking for caymans and maybe other exotic fauna.
Day 14-15 Granada
Granada is full of history and culture, outstanding churches, colonial architecture and good gastronomy. We will tour around the islands on lake Nicaragua, that are the result of the las eruption of the neighboring Mombacho volcano. We will also have gastronomy workshop!
Day 16-18 Ometepe
With its two outstanding volcanoes, its location and wonderful nature; Ometepe is considered one place you can't miss when visiting Nicaragua. You will have the opportunity of kayaking on the lake, swimming on springs, enjoy a tranquil beach, witness the dramatic sunset in Punta Jesús María, hike one of the volcanoes, explore protected areas or just relax by your hotel beach.
Day 19-20 Laguna de Apoyo
Apoyo lagoon is the perfect place to reflect on such a beautiful trip before heading back home. This crater lagoon will give you the pleasant energy and tranquility that you need before going back to your regular life.
Day 21 Back home
The international airport is located just an hour from your hotel. A driver will come and pick you up and take you to Managua.
